The result is a goofy, and surprisingly heartfelt, ode to old Hollywood, with tons of references and in-jokes that will go over the heads of not only kids, but a lot of adults, too.

The focus, as expected, is on warmed-over wisecracks and lots of chaotic action where you can’t really see what’s going on.

It is a decently made version of the same story that has already been made hundreds of times. Just because it is based on a true story doesn’t mean it isn’t also extremely derivative.

It is still likable, there are some inspired ideas and funny scenes. If the magic is gone, well, the series already had the best possible ending sixteen years ago.

It is quite enjoyable and shows that the aging master still knows how to hit all the right notes.

Everything here exists to serve the action, which is exciting, entertaining and very well-crafted. If it gets to be a little much by the end, well, thrill rides can be that way sometimes.

A pretty enjoyable dramedy about two people who are at odds as they try to find themselves at very different points in their lives.

It wants to be a big fantasy action movie, with effects, larger than life heroes and pure evil villains. It also wants to be a sendup of exactly that kind of movie. It turns out that this combination does not work.

It is unsettling, disturbing, deeply weird, surreal and effective, even if I can’t always explain how it is those things. It is fascinating.

It is a workmanlike production that trusts in the uniqueness of its story and some quality performances by a cast of capable professionals, to be solid entertainment. It is respectful and reasonably enjoyable.
