The eccentricity got boring after a while, which is a shame because the artwork is so inviting.

There can be an unreal beauty to stop-motion when done right. Writer/director Adam Elliot has definitely done it right.

While it certainly didn’t reignite my childhood passion for this property, it is a reasonably enjoyable watch.

The classic era of Pixar, where everything they made was gold, is probably gone for good. However, they still make solid entertainment.

It is touching, thought-provoking and, if this does prove to be the final cinematic treat we receive from this legend, a worthy goodbye.

Uncomplicated, simple, enjoyable, engaging, heartwarming and just plain likable, with moments of true beauty.

This is a clear attempt at a new franchise and is fun enough that it just might succeed.

It is certainly not a terrible experience. Still, it is hard to recommend it when Pixar has done so much better, so many times.

While it obviously doesn’t have the novelty of the original, it builds on its gorgeous world in clever and creative ways.

Though thematically darker than the famous Disney version, it is an inspiring family adventure that del Toro has certainly made his own.
