A pretty enjoyable dramedy about two people who are at odds as they try to find themselves at very different points in their lives.

It is a workmanlike production that trusts in the uniqueness of its story and some quality performances by a cast of capable professionals, to be solid entertainment. It is respectful and reasonably enjoyable.

It is an intriguing concept brought to life in an exceedingly dull film. The characters are thin, with the central one being a complete void of interest, and the pacing is extremely sluggish.

The patient, subtly emotional filmmaking, and a very strong performance from excellent character actor John Magaro, make for a mostly engaging drama.

At no point is anyone in this movie given the tiniest shred of depth. They are all pit stops on Michael’s journey.

It is certainly ambitious. However, it isn’t cohesive, with some really good pieces that don’t connect to one another. This is a mood more than a logical story. The mood is intriguing; the story is not engaging.

It is good entertainment, doubling as a history lesson. The fact that it makes us consider how crimes are covered today, and how criminals get turned into instant, polarizing, celebrities, is the cherry on top of the sundae.

It is insightful, funny and gently moving as it explores a relationship after it has ended, yet possibly before it is permanently finished.

It is unnerving to see kids going through this, yet what the movie is showing us isn’t that extreme, minus the titular malady. Kids can be cruel. The Plague explores how that feels in an empathetic and convincingly painful way.

It is quite entertaining and serves as a tremendous showcase for Timothée Chalamet’s ability to command the screen.
