Does that faithfulness make for a better movie? It is certainly better made. However, I am not sure it is as entertaining.

There are stretches that are great, some that feel overly repetitive and an ending that I’m not quite sure how I feel about. That’s Yorgos Lanthimos for you.

From a production and filmmaking standpoint, this may very well be the best movie of the year.

Mostly, this feels like cheap thrills with little to say about the terror.

It features an excellent lead performance and does justice to the subtle emotions of its moving story.

This is a decent adaptation of the material in most ways, except for Peter Dinklage’s performance, which raises it to a higher level.

It simmers too many times when it should be boiling over. Regardless, it is generally entertaining, even if it’s not particularly memorable.

The look of the movie is impressive because of how unshowy it is, though a lot of thought has obviously been put into every frame.

Dune is quite an accomplishment. It was made to be seen on the largest screen possible.

I try not to compare movies, even remakes. That said, it is hard not to be disappointed when one is so good and the other is not.
