It certainly contains elements from its predecessor, mixing it with aspects of A Nightmare on Elm Street to create a next step that is sort of logical. The result is uneven to say the least.

The jokes are still cleverly stupid and it is just plain enjoyable to see these actors slip back into these roles, finding some new places to mine humor from.

It is competently made, decently paced and has a handful of effective action sequences. In short, it is the definition of okay. It will probably give audiences what they expect, if not what they’re hoping for.

Paddington in Peru has its pleasures, however, it also backgrounds some of the better aspects of the series.

This is a sequel that pales in comparison to the original simply because we’ve already seen the original.

It is enjoyable enough in its own right, with solid performances and satisfying brutality. It delivers basically what it needed to.

Is it any good? My answer is: it’s complicated.

It definitely isn’t boring, though it isn’t exactly coherent, either.

While ambition can be welcome, sometimes going back to the classics feels oddly fresh. That is definitely the case here.
