Beast is a thriller that only intermittently thrills, making it unsuccessful at its main aim.

It is difficult not to be drawn in by the wonder and respect the Kraffts have for their subject.

While it may be overstuffed, Novak’s ambition is also part of why Vengeance is so intriguing.

It is a great setup and an inconsistent payoff, with a whole bunch of enjoyable moments.

Unfortunately, its better qualities are overwhelmed by the screenplay’s glaring weaknesses.
