This extremely dark comedy anthology is definitely a return to writer/director Yorgos Lanthimos' more disturbing form.

Thelma works so well because Josh Margolin undoubtedly loves this character and allows June Squibb to make her three-dimensional.

It is an entertaining, funny, movie that tells its story using its own unique voice.

With a screenplay that knows it should be silly, and two very charming leads, the result is as good this could possibly have been.

It doesn’t entertain consistently enough for this to be a total success, but it is a fascinating oddity.

Most of all, it is funny, centered on a bizarrely interesting true story and anchored by predictably strong performances.

Julio Torres gets away with an abundance of quirkiness due to his likability and the oddball charm of his storytelling approach.

Enough of the gags land, though what really makes this fun is the amused, strangely laid-back, chemistry of the stars.

There is great potential here for high camp that is too rarely realized.

Scrambled is at its best when protagonist Nellie has awkward, funny, and occasionally insightful conversations with the people in her life.
